Connecting MADI Devices to KLANG Products
Connecting MADI Devices to KLANG Products
Multichannel Audio Digital Interface (MADI) also called AES10 is a wide spread and very popular peer to peer protocol. e.g. consoles from DiGiCo use MADI as their standard connection to stage racks. But also other manufacturers e.g. Yamaha, AVID, … offer MADI as expansion cards. While Dante is the most used Audio over Internet Protocol (AoIP), MADI is still the live sound industry standard for peer to peer digital audio transmission.
NEWS: In November 2016 a MADI expansion card for KLANG:fabrik was released! Through KOS 2.2 update KLANG:fabrik can now also operate at higher sampling rates 88.2 and 96kHz.
KLANG:fabrik offers MADI through an expansion card and KLANG:fabrik/KLANG:vier offer ADAT and Dante interfaces. Learn in the following what devices could be used to convert from MADI to either ADAT or Dante. KLANG:quelle has a Dante interface only.
MADI to Dante Converters
KLANG:fabrik MADI
Through the flexible routing matrix KLANG:fabrik with MADI expansion can be used as a 64×64 channel or 128×0 MADI BNC IO from and to 64×64 Dante and 32×32 channel ADAT compatible converter at the same while still using KLANG:fabrik’s 3D in-ear mixing engine. Read more on the routing possibilities.
AuviTran AudioToolbox Platform
AuviTran AudioToolbox Platforms AVBx3 and AVBx7 can host several digital and analog input / output expansion cards. Among these digital options Dante (AxC-DANTE), MADI (AxC-MADI), ADAT (AxC-AT32IO), AES3 (AxC-DS32IO, AxC-DX8I and AxC-DX8O), CobraNet (AxC-CN32IO) and EtherSound (AxC-ES100) are available. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.
Appsys Multiverter
The Multiverter provides several digital interfances that can be converted to each other. Among these interfaces are MADI (BNC, optical, TP), 8x ADAT I/O, AES50 and Dante/AES67. Read more on the dedicated KLANG:blog post.

The AX32 is a configurable AD/DA/DD converter. In has BNC MADI I/O (56/64ch frames), AES3 and there is a Dante option available. The 8 card slots can hold expansion cards with mic preamps, line inputs and analog outputs. With its DADman remote control software signals can be routed (single channel) from all inputs freely to all outputs including MADI to Dante. Remote control for Windows and Mac OS X. No sample rate conversion. Samples Rates 44.1–192kHz. Read more on the dedicated KLANG:blog post.
DAD DX32 Digital Audio Bridge
Flexible converter and router with Dante (64×64 channels), AES3 (16×16 channels), MADI coax (64×64 channels). Remote control for Windows and Mac OS X. No sample rate conversion. Samples Rates 44.1–192kHz. Read more here.
DiGiCo Orange Box
The Orange Box is a 2RU configurable converter and has two card slots. Each card slot can hold a DiGiCo expansion card. There are MADI cards with optical, BNC and TP connectors available and a Dante expansion card. Read more on the manufacturer’s website.
